Find the difference with speed and precision
Subtraction is the inverse of addition — it finds the difference between two numbers. Whether calculating change, measuring distances, or solving equations, subtraction is a daily-life skill that speed-math practice can sharpen.
Finding the difference between two single-digit numbers (e.g. 9 − 4 = 5).
When a digit is too small to subtract from, borrow 1 from the next column. For 52 − 27, borrow from the tens: 12 − 7 = 5, then 4 − 2 = 2, giving 25.
Count up from the smaller number. For 100 − 37, count: 37 + 60 = 97, then 97 + 3 = 100. So the answer is 63.
To subtract from 100, 1000, etc., subtract each digit from 9 and the last from 10. 1000 − 467 = 533.
