Volume of a Cone

Formula
V = (1/3) × π × r² × h

What is Volume of a Cone?

The volume of a cone is one-third the volume of a cylinder with the same base and height. It is one-third times pi times the radius squared times the height.

Variables

  • V
    V — Volume
  • r
    r — Radius of the base
  • h
    h — Height of the cone
  • π
    π — Pi (approximately 3.14159)

Worked Examples

Example 1

Find the volume of a cone with radius 5 cm and height 12 cm.

Solution:

V = (1/3) × π × 5² × 12 = (1/3) × π × 25 × 12 ≈ 314.16 cm³
