Median = Middle value of sorted data

What is Median?

The median is the middle value when data is arranged in order. If there is an even number of values, the median is the average of the two middle values.

Worked Examples

Example 1

Find the median of 3, 7, 9, 11, 15.

Solution:

Already sorted. Middle value (3rd of 5) = 9

Example 2

Find the median of 2, 4, 6, 8.

Solution:

Even count. Average of 4 and 6 = (4+6)/2 = 5
